Executive Competencies: Governance • Strategic Leadership • Enterprise Risk • Ethics • Organizational Design

Project Type: Graduate Individual Strategy Project
My Role: Author

Executive Summary

I developed an evidence-based human resource policy framework using Johnson & Johnson as a benchmark organization. The project integrates governance, enterprise risk management, corporate social responsibility, and talent management into a unified policy model that aligns workforce practices with organizational strategy.

Business Problem

  • HR policies often evolve independently rather than as an integrated governance system.
  • Organizations must balance legal compliance, ethics, workforce capability, and strategic objectives.
  • Leadership requires policies that strengthen accountability while supporting organizational performance.

Strategic Analysis

Governance

Established accountability, authority, and policy oversight.

Enterprise Risk Management

Integrated risk assessment into strategic decision-making.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Aligned organizational values with ethical and community responsibilities.

Talent Management

Developed policies supporting recruitment, development, retention, and succession planning.

Strategic Recommendations

  • Establish centralized governance with decentralized implementation
  • Integrate enterprise risk into HR decision-making
  • Embed CSR into organizational policy
  • Align talent management with long-term organizational capability

Expected Organizational Impact

Policy Area Organizational Benefit
Governance Clear accountability and policy consistency
Enterprise Risk Improved resilience and strategic decision-making
CSR Stronger organizational reputation and employee engagement
Talent Management Sustainable workforce capability and retention

Reflection

This paper reinforced my understanding that effective human resource policies are strategic governance instruments rather than administrative documents. Developing an integrated policy framework demonstrated how governance, enterprise risk management, corporate social responsibility, and talent management work together to strengthen organizational performance. The experience shaped my perspective that HR policy should serve as an enterprise capability supporting accountability, resilience, ethical leadership, and long-term organizational success.
